About Me

I’m a California girl just trying to make it here in the PNW. I left San Francisco in 2020 and now live in Portland with my husband and our two golden retrievers, Bear and Moose.

I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2014 with a degree in Journalism, and played soccer on the U of O Club team. My newest title is Coach Sara - I recently joined Willamette United FC as an assistant soccer coach for the U10 Girls.

I’m a die-hard fan of: Kobe. LA Lakers. LA Rams. The ‘99ers (I can pinpoint Brandi’s PK as the moment I first dreamt of becoming a professional soccer player and my first memory of recognizing Nike as a brand).

Fun fact: I played on the team USA soccer team in the 2006 Maccabi Games (Jewish Youth Olympics) in Vancouver BC.

Hobbies: I love playing Tennis and Golf on the weekends. I’m proficient in power tools and a DIY Enthusiast. I’ll take reading a book over watching TV any day.

One thing to know: I may never be the loudest person in the room, nor the first to speak, but I always have an opinion that I’m willing to share.

Words I live by: Jimmy V’s “3 things”.

My Journey to Nike

Before every soccer game growing up, my dad would tell me “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. This was such an important lesson both on and off the field, and one I continue to learn from even now in my career.

From 2018 to 2021, I interviewed for 5 different roles at Nike, only to come up just short each time. Nike was always the dream for me... While I stayed determined and persistent to make my way up to the PNW, I gathered the building blocks full of diverse experiences in San Francisco, enjoying the ride along the way.

Agency life at Edelman gave me storytelling and project management skills (and of course, sharp attention to detail). Gap Inc is where I dipped my toes into the Retail world, learning all about the “Art” of marketing. And Google challenged me to learn the other side of the coin - the “Science” of marketing.

In November of 2021, I earned my 6th opportunity to interview for Nike. And that 6th time… it made all those other failures worth the journey. In January of 2022, I finally started my dream job at my dream company, and I’m proud of the path I took to get here.

I feel incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be a part of a brand I've idolized since I was kid, and to be on a team that gets to bring inspiration to every athlete* in the world through the power of sport.

My Why

At its best, Sport moves the world forward. It can make you feel seen, give you purpose, build confidence, and help you find community. I care deeply about Sport and believe in its power to make the world better and bring positive change to kids’ lives, as it did mine.

The video below is one that I made for a journalism class project my Sophomore year of college at the University Oregon. The assignment was to film and edit a video that showcased a vulnerable aspect of ourselves. I chose to tell a story about my love for soccer and my relationship with my mom, tied together under the theme of unconditional love. While 19-year-old Sara was the Creative Director here, 32-year-old Sara still treasures the sentiment. I will forever chase the “high” that Sport gives me, and I hope I can spend every day of my career doing work that evokes that same feeling for all Athletes*.
